William Hackett Ltd was established in 1892 principally to manufacture grass harrows for the farming industry under the direction of Daniel Hackett, who initially produced the tines on an open hearth fire. The original works were located in Cherry Orchard in the West Midlands, UK, until 1969 when the harrow production and thechain works were consolidated on the current site in Maypole Fields, West Midlands, UK. Investment in technology and continuous development ofmanufacturing techniques have been a company policy from the early 1900’s until today when state of the art computer control systems are used.
In order to remain competitive in the world marketplace we realised that we must invest in more efficient machinery to out perform the out dated hydraulic presses that were originally used, so we have recently invested in two Robomac automatic wire bending machines to form the parts required for the production of grass harrows.
William Hackett Chains Ltd has held a prominent position in the manufacture of grass harrows for over 100 years. The skilled workforce has adapted to changes in technologically advanced equipment and production techniques enabling William Hackett to become a truly international company producing world class quality products, for the UK market and exported to the United States of America and beyond.
Grass harrows have shown over the last century how versatile they are in the farming industry which is why there is still a large market place for this type of equipment. Our range of harrows are designed to cover all applications from large farms to small holdings and equestrian venues.

William Hackett Chain Harrows are designed to be universally compatible with our frames and drawbars and can be assembled into most widths using combinations of our standard harrow sections. For example a 16ft wide harrow could be a single 16ft, 2 x 8ft, 4 x 4ft or a 10ft and 6ft section.
Mounted Frames
All frame wings have gusset plates welded to add strength to the frame in case it comes into contact with the ground. To make the frames universal chains are welded along the front and rear bars so any type of harrow selection can be accommodated. Mounted Harrows are available in widths of 4ft through to 20ft wide with a depth of 7’-6”, Frames of 10ft and over have folding sides for transportation. The smaller frames are rigid and delivered flat packed on pallets, all frames are supplied for self assembly. Folding is a simple one man operation taking only a few seconds, hydraulic folding is an optional extra on all frames.
Drawbar Attachments
Universal Drawbars are manufactured from heavy duty steel tube complete with chain draft. The drawbars are strengthened by a steel attachment bar with welded spacers to allow universal attachment points.
